If my dear sister wasn't in a mad rush to get work I would have had her model this super chunky cowl for you all.
Either way, it's nice no?
This is a little pattern I came up with and I really enjoyed making it. I used Cascade Ecological Wool. This wool was a gift from a dear friend who got me some yarn when he was working in Vermont. He's friends with the family so I thought regifting the yarn to one of my sisters would be the perfect choice. So here we are calling it Fallen Leaves because the cables remind of leaves twirling their way down to earth, but between her and I we refer to it as the "Richie".
Next two days I have to be in New York City for training. Blog posts will be slim for sure, but I'm sure to see something interesting to write about.
Here are the specs for the cowl:
YARN: Cascade Ecologial Wool - beware, it's a tad scratchy, this should be worn with a coat.
NEEDLES: Size 11 circular 16''-20'' around. I used 16'' but it was crowded
ACCESSORIES: Cable Needle, marker
GAUGE- Approx 3 stitches to the inch
MEASUREMENTS: 36” inches around, 14” high.
Left 3 cable (L3c) – Take 3 stitches and place on a cable need, hold to the front of the work. Knit three stitches on the left handle needle and then knit the three stitches from the cable needle.
Right 3 cable (R3c) – Take 3 stitches and place on a cable needle, hold to the back of the work. Knit three stitches on the left handle needle and then knit the three stitches from the cable needle.
cast on 120 stitches.
Place marker, and join. Please don't twist your cast on row because you don't want that.
Rows 1& 2: knit
Row 3: *L3c, knit 6, repeat from*
Rows 5-9: Knit
Row 10: *R3c, knit 6 repeat from*
Rows 11-16: Knit
Repeat rows 3-16 until approx 11 inches (yarn blocks with length, not noticeable width)
End 2 rows after a cabled round so the edges won't curl.
Stretchy bind off for cowls- Knit a stitch, Knit knit a second stitch, knit these two stitches from the right hand needle together, knit one, knit 2 stitches from the right hand together. Repeat until all stitches are bound off. Cut the yarn and weave it through the last stitch on the needle and draw it through.
