What a lovely weekend. Long, warm and filled to bursting with good times.
My kids had a sleepover Friday and an all day adventure on Saturday. Mr. McG and I actually purchased an alcoholic beverage at public place! Together! I couldn't really believe I spent $9 on a margarita, but every salty sip was worth it, as I lounged in an Adirondack chair on the outdoor patio of the place down the street. Drinking. Outside. At Night. In public. I'm not a shut-in, but I play one on TV.
Saturday I spent hours upon hours in the kitchen, totally uninterrupted. I made cupcakes and candies for my Grandfather's 75th birthday/4th of July cookout. I adore cooking and baking and it's even more pleasant when I can get into the creative zone and just trash the kitchen without having to stop every five minutes for curious little hands and eyes. Teaching kids to cook is vitally important and I encourage my kids, but I really enjoy being able to get focused. So Saturday night me and the little McG's went to babysit my sister's kids for a few hours then when mom and dad returned we went to see some fireworks. A lovely show, but a VERY late night for my littles. They had a good sleep in on Sunday before we trekked to the birthday party. The party went late, traffic home was fine but my kids went to bed late AGAIN.
So this morning they wake up late again and this time the cousins are coming over to head to the beach. E, about 2, couldn't make it as he went back for more sleep around 10 AM and took a 5 hour nap. No joke, Poor little man was tuckered out. And still went to sleep by 8pm! He and his baby cousin stayed home with Mr. McG who is always happy to snuggle a baby and watch some tv in the A/C rather than sit in 100 degree sun!
There was some knitting done even! I'm working with Di' Vie Zenith yarn and it's not a plied yarn, which is odd for a wool, it's like a woven yarn, similar in structure to Cotton Classic. It's wonderful for crisp stitch definition and it's very soft. If it weren't quarter past 10 on a work night I'd add some pictures to this entry. However, I have every good intention of doing 30 minutes on the elliptical at the gym before work, let's see if they last through the night!
