I made this hat about a year ago, it's by MaryLou Egan and it's a fantastic pattern whose name escapes me at the moment. Spiral rib? Anyway, I made it for my husband in an adult size and had so much fun making it I did a second one for my younger son, Eli. One thing to know about Eli is that his head is not just large, but gargantuan. Like get an ultrasound when he's three months old cause his dome piece is so massive and growing so fast the doctors are worried he has swelling in his brain. He didn't. His head is huge though. Like 21 inches around as a two year old. Legitimately, off the charts huge. 8-12 year old size. Balancing acts aren't his strong suit.
Needless to say he needed a bigger hat than even I expected. This fit him like a large yarmulke. So it sat in my UFO bin for a year, waiting for 2 ends to be weaved in.
However! I can always rely on my sister to have a baby. If not her own then someone else's is at her house. The woman attracts children to her door the way old crazy ladies end up with 43 cats. Same principle. Love them, feed them, let them pee inside and they multiply.
This hat now belongs to my niece Tamlyn. The 7 month old wonder baby who says "up" and means it. The hat is a little big on her but she likes it. She wore it for ten minutes today which is all I needed!
When there are anywhere from 4-7 or 8 or 10 kids in the house you can never have too many hats.
