Today was a party in Rhode Island where I gifted a mom-to-be a new hat for her little guy. This hat is going to be written up as my next pattern but I enjoyed making it so much I want to make a second one and take time to photograph some steps. This was a bit of a rush job as I heard about the party a week ago.
One thing about this hat is that it's knit from the top down. In top-down construction it's important to have a stretchy edge. My normal method of knit one, slip one, knit the two on the right needle together for a bind off was way too tight.
Elizabeth Zimmerman to the rescue. Her stretchy sewn bind off is really and truly stretchy. Yeah it's a little more time consuming, by a few minutes, but completely worth it. Sometimes there is the easy way and it's different from the right way. It always pays to do it the right way.
