What a lovely weekend. Long, warm and filled to bursting with good times.
My kids had a sleepover Friday and an all day adventure on Saturday. Mr. McG and I actually purchased an alcoholic beverage at public place! Together! I couldn't really believe I spent $9 on a margarita, but every salty sip was worth it, as I lounged in an Adirondack chair on the outdoor patio of the place down the street. Drinking. Outside. At Night. In public. I'm not a shut-in, but I play one on TV.
Saturday I spent hours upon hours in the kitchen, totally uninterrupted. I made cupcakes and candies for my Grandfather's 75th birthday/4th of July cookout. I adore cooking and baking and it's even more pleasant when I can get into the creative zone and just trash the kitchen without having to stop every five minutes for curious little hands and eyes. Teaching kids to cook is vitally important and I encourage my kids, but I really enjoy being able to get focused. So Saturday night me and the little McG's went to babysit my sister's kids for a few hours then when mom and dad returned we went to see some fireworks. A lovely show, but a VERY late night for my littles. They had a good sleep in on Sunday before we trekked to the birthday party. The party went late, traffic home was fine but my kids went to bed late AGAIN.
So this morning they wake up late again and this time the cousins are coming over to head to the beach. E, about 2, couldn't make it as he went back for more sleep around 10 AM and took a 5 hour nap. No joke, Poor little man was tuckered out. And still went to sleep by 8pm! He and his baby cousin stayed home with Mr. McG who is always happy to snuggle a baby and watch some tv in the A/C rather than sit in 100 degree sun!
There was some knitting done even! I'm working with Di' Vie Zenith yarn and it's not a plied yarn, which is odd for a wool, it's like a woven yarn, similar in structure to Cotton Classic. It's wonderful for crisp stitch definition and it's very soft. If it weren't quarter past 10 on a work night I'd add some pictures to this entry. However, I have every good intention of doing 30 minutes on the elliptical at the gym before work, let's see if they last through the night!
Hey, I finally remembered to bring the jumpdrive with my PDF on it up
to the computer!
Now this is my very first attempt at writing a pattern and I hope
someone out there tries it. That would be awesome. I have a whackload
of pattern ideas in my head I hope to untangle and unravel all the
thoughts and get them developed into something a little more concrete.
pattern makes this scarf here:
I think I'm going to take some
more pictures of it to show it's really nice drape and texture. It's a
great warm weather scarf as it is airy, but has a lot of heft to it.
The Sirdar Snuggly Bamboo is so smooth and has a beautiful luster. And I
love love love pink. In all forms. You could give me a pink pile of
crap and I would at least smile at the pinkiness of it. This affair
with pink by the way, did not start until my mid twenties. I was a
blue-blue-blue girl through and through. Then it just shifted. And
actually now I'm really feeling the love for purple which is new for
me. I kind of like changing my favorite colors. Or having many of them
at at any rate. For me one the best parts of working with yarn is
playing with color.
It's wicked late and I have
other tasks to get to. Lots of Fourth of July shenanigans are in the
works and I need my rest to get through my mile long to do list!
Every day I take the train to work. It's a wonderful opportunity to relax and have a little yarn time.
Often though, I am totally distracted by the , how should I say, variety of people I encounter. Plenty of weirdos, oddballs and eccentrics. Heck I bet as a knitter some may think I'm weird too. Now my knitting group loves to hear about these people especially as I always try to sneak a photo from my cell phone. I believe the Yarn Harlot calls this kinnearing.
Anyway, they get so much happiness from my encounters I'd figure I'd share one here.
Today we were blessed with a bar car. Bar cars are, I believe, a Metro North thing. Now I have never seen a bartender or been able to buy a drink, but lots of riders bring their own or at least stand around and chat as if they were somewhere more social.
Now i was just going to take a picture of the car, but this fellow below really caught my eye. Look at the bedazzled pants. Never in a million years could I pull off such texture in my denim. And sparkle. These were definitely sparkly. Now raise your eyes up and check out the boxers. If I were going to wear bedazzled pants I would hitch em up! Of course, not being in style whatsoever I would be doing it wrong. But let me say this, if I had the stones to wear plasticy sparkly decorated jeans and have my ass hanging out I would definitely coordinate my underwear.
